My grandfather was 18 when he left his hometown in Nan’an, Fujian Province (China). Life was tough back then in China, and in hope for a better life, he headed south on a boat to Singapore. It was there, on that little red dot, where he met my grandmother. The two fell in love, got married, and had 9 children.
